OMHA Names New Executive Director

By Neil Hilts on January 29, 2017

Ian Taylor is at the top of the ladder for the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), as the Oakville native climbed up to the executive director position at the end of December.

Taylor worked with the league for 14 years as the director of developmental programs and brings more than 25 years of coaching experience as well.

“I am really looking forward to working with our Board and member associations to provide ongoing opportunities for our players, grow our game and be a leader in community sport,” Ian Taylor said on OMHA’s website.

The Oakville, Ont. native is carrying the torch from Richard Ropchan, who was the executive director for 15 years and was with the organization for a total of 19. Ropchan’s notable achievements include the introduction of online registration and and many other successful initiatives, including the Respect in Hockey program.

In the OMHA, there are 228 minor hockey associations Taylor will be tasked to oversee. The two biggest issues facing hockey – cost and registration decline – will likely be hot button issues for Taylor.

He’ll work alongside OMHA President Rob Ring and the Board of Directors, focusing on development and game experiences, plus day-to-day operations.
