Tourigny named Canada’s National Men’s Summer U18 Head Coach

By HockeyNow on July 06, 2018

André Tourigny has been named head coach of Canada’s National Men’s Sumer U18 team (Hockey Canada)

There’s a familiar face taking over the head-coaching position with Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team.

Experienced Hockey Canada coach André Tourigny will be behind the U18 bench following the departure of Gilles Bouchard, who is joining the American Hockey League’s Syracuse Crunch as an assistant coach.

Tourigny recently completed his first season as Head Coach and Vice-President of Hockey Operations with the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s.

His Hockey Canada resumé includes being an assistant coach with Canada’s National Men’s Summer U18 team at the 2008 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup (now the Hlinka Gretzky Cup), and winning back-to-back silver medals as an assistant coach with Canada’s National Junior Team at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in 2010 and 2011.

He’ll be in Calgary monitoring the progress of 44 players at Team Canada’s U18 selection camp in late July before taking the team to the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup scheduled for Aug. 6-11 in Edmonton and Red Deer. The international tournament features eight elite U18 national teams from Europe, Canada and the U.S.

Joining Tourigny behind the bench during selection camp and at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup are assistants Mitch Love (Saskatoon, WHL) and Ryan Oulahen (Flint, OHL).
