Steve Seto

Born and raised on the prairies, Steve headed west from Saskatoon to complete the Digital Communications and Media program at Lethbridge College and now resides in Calgary. 

Having a passion for playing and following sports, Steve decided to find a career in journalism after no scouts found him on the outdoor rinks in Saskatchewan. He has helped cover the Lethbridge Hurricanes, university and college sports with Lethbridge Campus Media. Along with hockey he has been able to dive in and cover sledge hockey, basketball, golf and baseball.

He writes and focuses on minor hockey in Alberta and B.C. for HockeyNow.

    The 2017 Esso Cup has wrapped up with all of the hardware handed out to respective teams.  The bronze medal game had the Durham West Lightning and the host Pembina Valley Hawks squaring off a day after tough semifinal losses, both teams lost by one to St. Albert and Triolet in those games to put them in the bronze final.

    Day 4 of the 2017 Telus Cup saw the standings get a little bit crowded, but one team was able to secure their spot in Saturday’s semifinals. The Oil Kings weren’t able to fully capitalize on the 11 power play opportunities in the first game of the day against the Pat Canadians.

    2017 Esso Cup, Day 5: Semifinal Round Set

    The St. Albert Slash go into Friday’s semifinals with the best record in the 2017 Esso Cup.  After going undefeated throughout the preliminary round, the Slash are primed and ready to put themselves in a position to hoist the Esso Cup Saturday night. St. Albert walked through Durham West in commanding fashion to keep them undefeated through the tournament.

    The race for first place at the 2017 Telus Cup just got tighter as three teams are tied for the top spot.  The Leduc Oil Kings were able to hand the Mississauga Rebels their first loss of the tournament after building a healthy lead and not looking back in the first game of the day.

    The second day of the 2017 Telus Cup saw Mississauga and Cape Breton continue their winning ways. The Rebels established their lead early with a goal from Bair Gendunov and didn’t look back from there.

    Day 3 of the 2017 Esso Cup saw all three teams west of Manitoba sweep the entire day with victories over Mid-Isle, Triolet and Durham West. Prince Albert was able to secure their first win of the tournament to put them back into contention for the medal rounds.

    The 2017 Telus Cup kicked off with the eastern teams taking an early advantage after Day 1 action. The teams from out east didn’t have any trouble adjusting to the time change as this year’s tournament is out west in Prince George.
