Prospect Profile: Henri Jokiharju, Alex Formenton & Alex-Olivier Voyer

This week’s prospects include Henri Jokiharju (Portland Winterhawks), Alex Formenton (London Knights) & Alex-Olivier Voyer (Rimouski Oceanic).

Bryan Heim/Portland Winterhawks

Henri Jokiharju - Portland Winterhawks (WHL)
Position:
D
Born: June 17, 1999 – Tampere, Finland
Height: 6’0"
Weight: 170 lbs.
Shoots: Right
Drafted: 2016 CHL Import Draft - Round #1 (25th overall) by the Portland Winterhawks
Henri Jokiharju is a steady stay at home defenceman who is developing an offensive side to his game as he adjusts to the North American ice. His speed is a real standout as he often gets caught out of position but has the recovery speed to get back and cover his zone. Uses good gap control to keep play active in the offensive zone. He doesn't possess a real strong shot but will play some power play. He will take wrist shots all day long with accuracy but he packs no power or accuracy with his slap shot. Can move the puck well and skates well in all four directions. Plays with a chip on his shoulder at times and he needs to understand when a good time to get chippy is. It will take some time for Jokiharju to develop into a premier offensive defenceman, but he will get there.

DID YOU KNOW?  Jokiharju posted nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points in 47 games playing as a 16-year-old with the Tappara U20 team in Finland's Junior A league last season. In addition, he helped Finland win a gold medal at the World Under-18 Championship this past spring, as he registered three assists in seven games in the tournament. He also represented Finland at the 2015 World Under-17 Championship, where he had a goal in five games.

Alex Formenton - London Knights (OHL)
Position:
LW
Born: September 13, 1999 – King City, Ontario, Canada
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 159 lbs.
Shoots: Left
Drafted: 2015 OHL Draft - Round #11 (216th overall) by the London Knights
Alex Formenton is another real young talent coming out of the London program. Rail thin and gives up weight to the big boys every shift he is on the ice, but has adjusted his game and uses his speed as his biggest asset. Displays elite speed in all zones on the ice and is relentless on the forecheck. Still growing in size and also his hockey IQ. Needs to make sure he thinks about what he needs to do with the puck rather than what he wants to do with it. He doesn’t have the best hands around the net but sure has a nose for the net and will make things happen. Does a good job of working hard and getting under the skin of opponents. Tremendous work ethic but extremely raw and will grow stronger as he gets older but still has lots to learn.

DID YOU KNOW?  A product of the Mississauga Rebels Minor Midget 'AAA' organization, where he recorded 55 points in 65 games played in the 2014-15 season. While playing for the Aurora Tigers in the OJHL, Formenton was one of just two players on the club to play in all 54 regular season contests, finishing eighth in overall scoring with 13 goals and 26 points.

Alex-Olivier Voyer - Rimouski Oceanic (QMJHL
Position:
RW
Born: April 10, 1999 – Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada
Height: 6’2"
Weight: 186 lbs.
Shoots: Right
Drafted: 2015 QMJHL Draft – Round #1 (15th overall) by Rimouski Oceanic
Alex-Olivier Voyer is due for a big season after getting limited minutes as a fourth line rookie last season and fighting injuries. He is big guy with impressive speed and slickness. Has a good powerful stride with acceleration. Has the skill to skate himself out of trouble and shields the puck well when he is deep in the offensive zone. Likes to shoot but doesn’t always hit the net. Solid hands in close and likes to create traffic in front of the net. Will get involved physically and can have a bit of a temper on the ice. Competitive each shift and has a strong lower body that he uses to win puck battles in the corners. Power forward in the making.

DID YOU KNOW? Voyer as a 15-year-old had nine goals, 26 points and 72 penalty minutes in 39 games for the Magog Cantonniers in the QMAAA 2014-15. He scored another three points in four playoff games and added 14 penalty minutes.
