This coming Remembrance Day weekend, the South Delta Minor Hockey Association will be playing host to the 18th Annual Tim Jardine Memorial Tournament.

The Bantam AAA Showcase, which runs from Nov. 10 to 13 will feature some of the top teams from the Lower Mainland, including last year’s finalists, Seafair, who won the 2010 tournament with an 8-2 win in the championship game.

While a few of the local upper echelon Bantam sides won’t be in the tournament draw, with such tournament alumni as NHLers Brent Seabrook, Brandon McMillan and Troy Brouwer, it’s long been a showcase scouts try not to miss.

“I still think there are a lot of good players a lot of good talent that will be at the tournament,” said South Delta coach Shane Kuss. “It’s always been a very good tournament for scouts to come to.”

With Surrey, North Delta, Vancouver, Ridge Meadows, Coquitlam and Campbell River joining Seafair and South Delta, this year’s tournament will be hotly contested.

“I think it’s going to be a very competitive tournament,” Kuss said. “I think anyone can win it and I think it’s pretty exciting when you have a tournament that any one of the eight teams could probably come in and be successful.”

The tournament is in memory of Tim Jardine who died of complications from a ruptured spleen while playing Junior B hockey in 1994. Jardine played his Bantam hockey with South Delta.

“It’s a great way to celebrate [Jardine] and what he did to contribute to South Delta Minor Hockey,” Kuss said. “I think it’s been a great tournament and there have been a lot of top-end players who have come through the tournament and the tradition lives on.”

The eight teams will be split into to pools of four where they will play round robin games Thursday and Friday. The quarter-finals, with each team making it, will be played Saturday with the semifinals going Sunday morning and the final being played Sunday at 4:15 p.m.

All games will be played at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
