The atoms aren’t the only A1 team struggling to find traction in tiering. The peewee A1’s, fresh off a Provincial title this past spring, have gotten off to a very modest 3-2-1 start in tiering. The squad is going to be under heavy pressure this season from a very potent NSWC A1 team that’s off to a 6-0 start and already firing on all cylinders.
The A2 team, meanwhile, is at the bottom of group one with an 0-6 record but still feeling confident about how the season is shaping up.
“I have been very happy with our play throughout the placement round. We have out shot our competition in four of six games and I believe have created more power plays in each game. We have also been able to match each team’s skill and speed with confidence,” commented head coach Brad Reynolds. “This is a lot to ask of 14 first years to play at the highest level of hockey in the lower mainland and they are holding their own.”
The A3 team is 2-4 in their tiering group three, and they’re clearly one of the bubble teams that could end up in either tier two or three, depending on how they play in their final two games.
“It’s a bit tough to get through tiering against some of the kids in the A1 associations because they have bigger and stronger players,” said head coach Marko Segovic.
