East wins OHMA Midget AAA All-Star Game

The Eastern AAA Midget All-Stars defeated the South Central AAA Midget All-Stars by a score of 5-4 in a shootout to win the OHMA Midget AAA All-Star Game, held on Jan. 28 at the Pickering Recreation Complex in Pickering, Ont.

The all-star game saw 40 of the top OHMA players hit the ice and showcase their skills in the tightly-fought contest.

The MVPs of the game were the Eastern team’s Tim Pandachuck and South Central’s Jarrod Peacock.

C.J. Nicholson, Neil Aird, Jesse Pereira and Jarrod Peacock scored for the South Central All Stars, while Tim Pandachuck, Matt Simons, Liam McDonnell and Dan Michel scored in regulation for the Eastern All-Stars.

The Eastern Team’s Joey Vocino and McDonnell scored the only two goals during the shootout.

 

Niagara Falls Canucks win Int’l Silver Stick Tournament

In Major Peewee A action, the Niagara Falls Canucks defeated the Orillia Terriers 2-1 to win the Peewee A championship at the International Silver Stick Championship held in Port Huron, Mich.

The Canucks advanced through the round robin by defeating the Chicago Bruins 3-1, the Woodstock Jr. Navy Jets 4-3 and tying the California Cougars 2-2. Niagara Falls then defeated the Barrie Colts 7-3 in the quarter-finals, and the Whitby Wildcats 4-1 in the semi-finals to earn their spot against Orillia in the finals.

Canucks players Harry Walker and Aidan Beach were selected to the tournament’s all-star team, while Niagara Falls goaltender Johnathan Fitt was awarded the MVP for goaltending. 

 

The 5,000 puck challenge is underway

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s (OMHA) Player Development Program launched its 5,000 Puck Challenge in January, designed to help young players improve the accuracy and speed of their shots at home.
Players participating in the program have to shoot 5,000 pucks over a 10-week period, running from January 16 to April 30.

The challenge comes out to taking 100 shots a day, five days a week for 10 weeks.

All players who complete the challenge will be entered into a draw where they could win autographed prizes from Colorado Avalanche’s Matt Duchesne and Reebok.

 

Centre Wellington Fusion wins Acton Peewee tourney

The Centre Wellington Fusion defeated the Acton Chargers in sudden death 4-3 to become the Peewee Select champions of the 42nd annual Acton Peewee Tournament, held from Feb. 3 to 5 in Acton. The Fusion finished the tournament 4-0, outscoring their opponents 25-3.

 

OHMA AAA Championships

The OHMA “AAA” qualifying weekends and championships will take place in March. The following is a list of the days and locations for each division:

– OMHA Minor Midget AAA Championship (Hamilton, Ont.)

– SCTA Atom OMHA Qualifying Weekend (Niagara Falls, Ont.)

– SCTA Minor Atom Qualifying Weekend (Halton ,Ont.)

 

March 16 to 18

- OMHA Atom AAA Championship (Oakville, Ont.)

- OMHA Minor Atom AAA Championship (Oakville, Ont.)

- OMHA Minor Bantam AAA Championship (Hamilton, Ont.)

- OMHA Peewee AAA Championship (Oakville, Ont.)

- SCTA Minor Peewee OMHA Qualifying Weekend (Welland, Ont.)

- SCTA Novice OMHA Qualifying Weekend (Burlington, Ont.)

 

March 23 to 25
