Jr. 67’s Minor Midgets make finals at Fitzsimmons tourney
The Ottawa Jr. 67’s Minor Midget AAA team battled their way to the finals of the Fitzsimmons Towing & Repair Tournament of Champions in Peterborough, but lost a close game to the Toronto Marlboros by a score of 3-1. Ottawa defeated the Peterborough Pete’s 4-0 in the semi-finals to earn their shot against the Marlboros.
The Jr. 67’s were led by Andrew Abou-Assaly, who was awarded the Minor Midget Top Scorer of the Tournament. Abou-Assaly scored four goals and nine assists for 13 points in Ottawa’s six games (4-1-1) at the tournament.
ODMHA Tournament of Champions
The Ottawa District Minor Hockey Association’s Tournament of Champions has chosen its hosts for each division. The tournament will be hosted the following:

Ottawa Valley Titans turn 30
The Ottawa Valley Titans turned 30 this season. The organization celebrated its first season in 1981/82. The Titans have had several players go on to NHL careers, including Todd White, Kurtis Foster, Kent Huskins, Sean O’Donnell, and Matt Bradley.
There have also been approximately 200 former Titans that have gone on to have careers in the NCAA, AHL or Europe. The Titans currently run four AAA teams: Minor Bantam, Major Bantam, Minor Midget and Major Midget.
The Minor Bantam Titans recently won the Spirit AAA Challenge Tournament, held from Jan. 13 to 15 in Oshawa.
Pembroke Kings win Int’l Silver Stick Peewee B Championship
The Pembroke Peewee Kings left the International Silver Stick Tournament in Forest, Ont. the Peewee B champions, after defeating the Twin Centre Stars 1-0 in the finals.
Pembroke went undefeated in the tournament (5-0), outscoring their opponents 15-6.
OEMHL Midget Hockey Bursary Program deadline coming soon
The Ontario East Minor Hockey League’s 2011/12 Midget Hockey Bursary Program deadline for submissions is Feb. 29.
The OEMHL awards $1,000 bursaries to five Midget players – chosen from a pool players selected by the league’s coaches – who best meet the program’s criteria, which includes: academic excellence, community involvement, role model characteristics, on ice work ethic and display of team and individual skills, positive attitude and demonstrated future career planning. Coaches can send their submissions to Claire McCaughan at clairemccaughan@sympatico.ca
