Most coaches want to integrate group work right at the end of their practices. This Two-Pass Chase drill works on a number of the shooting and passing skills that all coaches want to develop in their players.

Set up three lines of players starting at the tops of the circles.

The coach passes one puck to a player at the front of one of the lines.

The player with the puck passes to another of the two players at the front of their lines.

This player, in turn, passes to the third player.

As soon as each player makes the first or second pass, they skate hard chasing their pass, putting pressure on the player receiving the puck.

After the first two passes are made and chased, the player with the puck now skates hard to take a shot on net.

The shooter is pressured by the player who passed the puck.

If the puck ends up in the corner, the shooter retrieves the puck, passes to one of the players in line, and the two-pass chase starts all over again.

This simple process works on quick puck movement with players passing and shooting under pressure. Ask your players to gradually increase their speed and accuracy. When your players master this drill, give them the “go” to take the puck away from the player they are chasing if they get a chance to do so.
