Edge School for Athletes: News & Notes

NEW CEO AND PRINCIPAL, CAM HODGSON
As of Aug. 15, 2011, Cam Hodgson has joined Edge School as the new CEO and Principal.

Dan Fournier, who has been working as Interim CEO since last year, will work with Cam during a transition period and continue to support Edge School as an Advisor and a member of the Edge School Foundation Board of Directors.

Hodgson joined Edge School in August 2011.

In his role as CEO, he is responsible to oversee the school’s operations and reporting to the
Edge Board Executive Committee. Cam is internationally recognized as an expert in this field.

Hodgson brings a demonstrated history of leadership in creating innovative learning environments which foster academic and athletic excellence for Canadian student-athletes. His leadership and expertise will now benefit the Edge community.

He brings a wealth of knowledge in creating cutting-edge programs where academics and athletics go hand in hand to provide an innovative learning environment for students.

Prior to joining Edge School, Cam was the principal of the National Sports School, Assistant Principal at Queen Elizabeth High School and taught at a number of Calgary Board of Education schools. He has also been a Sessional Instructor at the University of Calgary. Cam has been working in the field of education for over 20 years.

Cam is a long-time Calgarian and former student-athlete. He was named to the All-Canadian Football team and was a two-time Western Conference Football All-Star while attending the University of Calgary. Educated in Calgary, he earned Bachelors Degrees in Physical Education and Education, as well as a Masters Degree in Education, specializing in Educational Leadership.

Cam has remained actively involved in sports by coaching a variety of sports in the school and community systems, including the Calgary Minor Hockey system.

Married with three children, Cam resides with his family in Calgary, enjoying locally available sport and recreational activities.

Fagerheim Commits to Division I American Int’L College

The St. Albert Steel recently announced that forward Brandon Fagerheim, an Edge alum, has committed to the American International College of the Atlantic Hockey Association.

 Fagerheim, the 20-year-old native of Calgary, Alta., joined the St. Albert Steel in November 2010.

He played 43 games for the St. Albert Steel in the 2010/11 season, accumulating 38 points on nine goals and 29 assists.



“Brandon is very deserving of this opportunity,” said Head Coach, Greg Parks.
“His contributions to the Steel both on and off the ice were greatly appreciated.”

GIRLS PREP TEAM NEWS
The Girls Prep team is headed to Burlington, Vermont for a U19 exhibition tournament, Sept. 1 to 6, 2011.

Also, several of the girls were at the Team Alberta training/selection camps this summer and are still in the running to be part of the team for nationals in November.

This year’s roster includes (in jersey no. order) Zoe Brennan, Megan Grenon, Brooke Fouracres, Eden Murray, Erika Sowchuk, Lauren Fredrich, J’nai Mahadeo, Celine van der Molen, Hannah Olenyk, Caitlin Fyten, Cassandra Vilgrain, Kelly Murray, Cassidy Fuller, Lyndsay Kirkham, Selby Jessiman, Kaylan Palsat, Karly Heffernan, Carissa Fisher, and Emma Pincott.

* Todd Lauren will be working with each team’s goalies and helping Scott Atkinson on Mondays with the skill development (goalie development)
